Features we don’t have…and why:

  • NGINX SERVER – it’s extra work to support 2 servers (NGINX & OLS). I understand NGINX works well too but the time for OpenLiteSpeed has come. It’s fast, easy to configure, and compatible with the beautiful LiteSpeed Cache plugin. Do try it and see the hype for yourself.
  • CDN – Cloudflare already provides it free and easily integrated with our service. Other hosts either integrate Cloudflare or build a crappy internal one (that’s even slower than not using CDN).
  • EMAIL – pain in the ass to support, almost no competitors have it, and serious sites are going to be using real email hosting anyway (not a self-hosted one).
  • MALWARE SCANNER – just about all server malware scanners (ClamAV, ImmunifyAV) are limited since they’re not app-specific to WordPress. They aren’t very good at catching WordPress-specific intrusions. The best malware scanner for WordPress is WordFence plugin (IMO). If you’re feeling paranoid or aren’t a “pro”, I recommend install WordFence.
  • FAIL2BAN – because it sucks (unless you’re a super-pro at configuring it). It often lets bad traffic in, or even worse…it blocks legitimate traffic. No thanks. Besides, we use CSF which is wayyyyyy better.
  • ModSecurity & OWASP – a WAF that slows your site load noticeably and not really that effective (still lets many hacks through). For that reason, I much prefer the 7G WAF (which we have).
  • LOAD BALANCING – aka high availability, failover, clustering, blah blah blah…long story short, nobody needs this. The math is simple. Will 45mins downtime cost you 3x the price of your webhosting? Because that’s how much a cluster setup will cost you. Our upstream data-centers have averaged less than 15mins of downtime per year. (And honestly, it’s usually 0% downtime.)
